Is this the first person to fly to the wrong Sydney Airport? | 9 News Australia
Julie Lundmark had searched the airport name on her boarding pass before flying. She still landed somewhere she did not recognize, with her car parked at Sydney's other airport.
Speaking outside the newly opened Western Sydney International Airport in a report from Australia's 9 News Australia, Lundmark explains that she had flown from Melbourne after visiting friends. Only after arriving did she realize where she was.
"And we had no idea that they had several airports here in Sydney. So now we are stuck," she says.
Lundmark says her earlier online search had pointed her toward the established Sydney Airport because the new airport was not yet open. The two are in different parts of the metropolitan area: Western Sydney International is west of the city center, while Kingsford Smith is in Mascot, to the south. She estimates getting back to their car will take two hours.
The reporter suggests she might be the first passenger to make this mistake, though the interview does not establish that. The immediate problem is less ceremonial: finding a ride.
Then Lundmark spots her friend approaching. "My friend is here with our coffee," she says, while they continue arranging transport back to the car.
