The Gucci shirt is homemade. Pulling out a keepsake from her early video-making days, Emma Chamberlain shows Vogue the bootleg tee she painted herself: "Mama doesn't have that, so I painted my own!"
It is one of the more personal stops in "Inside Emma Chamberlain's Home, Full of Wonderful Objects | Vogue," an Objects of Affection tour of her Los Angeles house. Designer bags and well-worn shoes get their introductions, but so do an antique crumb brush, a childhood stuffed rabbit and a mannequin with an unrealized career in podcasting.
That last resident sits at the dining table, dressed in Thom Browne. Chamberlain originally bought her body double as a prop for her podcast setup. Here, it becomes another household object with a backstory, alongside a bird-shaped glasses holder and a ceramic house that holds the kitchen sponge.
At the gallery wall, Chamberlain places her own self-portrait among inherited paintings and a carved wooden butt sculpture. "This is balancing humor and aesthetic," she says. Elsewhere, large landscape oils by her father get a particularly enthusiastic response: she wants more, even if finding wall space takes some doing.
The tour has drawn about 1.3 million views, though this is not an unusually fast start for Vogue. In the comments, longtime viewers are revisiting Chamberlain's old vlogs, recognizing the painted shirt and wondering why another remembered wardrobe staple, her fuzzy Forever 21 jacket, didn't get its own moment.
