Youri Tielemans deserves time. That is Mark Goldbridge's argument before Manchester United's trip to Como, even as he finds plenty to question about the team around him.
"When you have a new signing, I don't think you should be going for them in the first season, let alone the first few months," he says on The United Stand's Champions League watchalong. His defense is not a blanket endorsement of how Tielemans is being used: once the match begins, he criticizes the positioning of both Tielemans and Mason Mount as United struggle to build attacks.
The bench worries him before kickoff, too. Several of the young substitutes, he notes, have already played in a youth game that day. He directs the criticism away from those players and toward the resources available to the senior team. Repeated late-game fatigue and injuries form another part of his concern: in Goldbridge's assessment, United's fitness levels are low.
His managerial discussion makes a useful distinction. He dismisses the credibility of reports linking Julian Nagelsmann with United, but later names Nagelsmann as his own preferred option if Michael Carrick leaves, ahead of Unai Emery or Antonio Conte. A preference, in other words, is not confirmation of an appointment.
The stream includes a promotional segment for a prize competition. Its pre-match prediction is more restrained than some comments suggest: at 13:52, Goldbridge picks a draw.
