Changing the manager would not settle Jamie Carragher's argument about Manchester United. In Sky Sports Premier League's post-Bournemouth discussion, he calls for Michael Carrick to go, then turns his attention to the people choosing the next appointment.

"You've got to start looking at INEOS now," he says, criticizing the ownership's record of selecting managers. His argument is that another change in the dugout cannot be considered separately from the decisions being made above it.

The discussion follows United's three-goal home defeat, with Ashley Young questioning the players' commitment. Young played alongside Carrick at United, and his warning is blunt: "As players, you're not going to get sacked. It will fall on the manager."

When the conversation reaches possible replacements, Carragher offers a clear preference: "I'd probably go for Eddie Howe." Julian Nagelsmann also enters the discussion, while Unai Emery's suitability becomes a question toward the end. These are the panel's possibilities, not announced candidates.

Young is less persuaded by Antonio Conte. He argues that Conte's preferred formation and approach would not suit United's traditional style. Carragher, meanwhile, points to the club's historical reliance on exceptional managers such as Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, raising a harder question than simply who should come next: what does the job require to work?

The immediate situation has moved on since this discussion was posted. In a subsequent training update, Sky reported that Carrick and Bruno Fernandes had met to clear the air, with both committing to refocus on turning United's season around.
