114 of 115: Tifo draws its explainer on the Manchester City verdict

Seven writers, David Ornstein and Matt Slater among them, and one illustrator, Henry Cooke, sit behind the channel's walk through what the club was actually charged with.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What exactly did Manchester City do wrong? Tifo's answer arrived on September 30, a day after the club was found guilty of 114 of the 115 Premier League charges first brought in February 2023. The illustrated explainer, written by a team that includes David Ornstein, Matt Slater and Sam Lee and drawn by Henry Cooke, passed 390,000 views in under a day. That pace sits far above anything else on the channel right now. The description notes that the club is expected to appeal.

The podcast got there first. Joe Devine hosted Colin Millar, Kaya Kaynak and Thom Harris on the day of the verdict, with chapters on crime and punishment, whether this is an on- or off-field crisis, and a section simply titled "How does Thom feel?" before a turn to Spain against England.

The rest of the eight uploads kept the lighter side of the channel going. Joe and Rueben tried to name the same footballer at once, a mystery round of "Who's on my head?" passed 400,000 views, and a short asked how a penalty shootout could happen with only one team. Josh Williams's tactical piece follows Liverpool from Jurgen Klopp's heavy metal football through Arne Slot's title to Andoni Iraola's high-risk press. A two-day-old short on why footballers spit their drinks out is also moving quickly.

Overall the channel ran a little below its usual daily views. Among similar football channels, the City story lifted Sky Sports News and The Overlap well above their norm, while talkSPORT, the busiest of the group, carried on at full volume.
