Five million views for Sweet Impact's M&M-covered Halloween cake
Robert Lucas's four-upload week also includes a Gengar cake, a hot-sauce cupcake and a kitchen-gadget test.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Black frosting is not that bad
How much decorating counts as easy? Robert Lucas's answer involves covering an entire cake tier with individually placed M&Ms. His Halloween creation has now passed five million views, giving Sweet Impact's week a very different scale from its other new releases.
In "Black frosting is not that bad," Lucas smooths black chocolate ganache over the top tier, explaining that it shouldn't taste bitter. Below it sits an orange tier wrapped in a black-and-orange candy chevron. Melted marshmallows become stretchy spiderwebs, with Halloween Oreos finishing the top. The comments keep returning to the patience behind those candy rows and Lucas's rather generous definition of easy.
The cake is drawing most of the channel's daily viewing right now. But September's "I made another cake by random" also remains active, attracting fresh views more than a month after publication. Chance-picked designs haven't disappeared just because the spiders arrived.
Elsewhere among the week's four uploads, "I made Gengar out of cake #cake" brings another Pokémon to the decorating bench. "Loser eats a hot sauce cupcake" supplies the spicy premise, while "Testing AS SEEN ON TV Kitchen Gadgets... Do They Actually Work?" has Lucas testing slicers and supposed time-savers against their commercial promises.
Sweet Impact added roughly 30,000 subscribers over the week, and daily views are running at more than triple their usual level. It also had the largest weekly view gain among these nearby cooking channels, with More Best Ever Food Review Show having a substantial week too. For Lucas, the most visible draw is an ostensibly simple cake requiring a decidedly patient hand.
