Drafts, geckos and a lit match: The Reynolds Recommend's house short runs fourteen times usual
Two shorts went up under the same title on September 30, and this one drew about ten times the other while its comments filled with questions about doors, windows and winter.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 255,500 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (18,852).
Every house needs this 😮
Close to a quarter of a million people watched "Every house needs this 😮" in its first twenty-two hours. That is the kind of crowd The Reynolds Recommend usually gathers over a couple of weeks. The channel runs on short product clips with titles that read like a friend pointing at something on a shelf: "The perfect tool," "The best way to travel," "Every car needs this," each with the same wide-eyed emoji at the end.
The title has a twin. Another short called "Every house needs this 😮" went up the same day and sits at around 24,000 views. That is respectable for this channel, but it is a tenth of what this one drew. The facts do not say whether the two show the same gadget.
The comments make clear what this one is about: a strip that seals the gap around a door. Viewers quickly started adapting it to their own homes. One pictures it around the windows when winter comes. Another hopes it will keep out the tiny geckos that crawl in under the door. Others look more closely. One noticed a spot that stayed open after a flick of the thumb and wondered whether the strip will keep springing back. Someone asked about ventilation, and another objected to the lit match used to show the draft.
The channel as a whole is running a little under its usual daily pace, carried as always by its long back catalog. The house short is the one bright spot of the week. Behind it, the next day's toolbox and car clips are only starting out.

This would be excellent to be placed around windows in winter also.

💡 Test your knowledge
Geckos can walk up smooth walls thanks to millions of tiny hairs on their toe pads. What are those hairs called?
Gecko toe pads are covered in microscopic hairs called setae, which cling to surfaces through weak molecular forces.
