An upstate New York resident feels let down by Donald Trump's promises, yet remains committed to voting Republican. Mark Stone's account of that conversation captures a distinction running through Sky News's pre-midterms road trip: dissatisfaction with a president and changing your vote are not necessarily the same thing.
Stone and fellow US correspondent James Matthews set out from Washington in separate cars, heading north and south to hear voters ahead of Tuesday's elections. Their stops take the programme beyond campaign rallies, into service areas, a university campus, diners and a ferry to North Carolina's Bald Head Island.
Fuel costs repeatedly enter the conversations. In Pennsylvania, a driver tells Stone that heating oil and diesel prices are his main concern. Later, in New Hampshire, Stone meets an oil delivery driver and homeowners discussing the pressure of heating bills. "Everything's expensive, everything," one resident says.
The political responses differ. At a Virginia taphouse, one voter says she supported Trump during his first term but sees a different president in his second. At a North Carolina farm stand, Jill hopes her region stays Republican. Democratic congressman Don Davis, interviewed in Rocky Mount, puts affordability and inflation at the centre of his pitch.
The title asks whether Trump is "on the road to a disaster". These encounters reveal frustration, not an election result. Stone also notes an absence of Trump yard signs along part of his route, an observation rather than a measure of how people will vote.
The report has drawn about 59,000 views since yesterday. Its most revealing contrast is between voters questioning the administration's economic delivery and those whose criticism has not displaced their Republican allegiance.
