A hidden fish pond reappears in SB Mowing's backyard cleanup

Spencer's three-day project uncovers stonework and flower beds on a property the homeowner inherited from her grandparents.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

The stone arch entrance is too narrow for large equipment, so Spencer has to tackle the backyard's dense brush and vines with hand tools and a trimmer. Beneath the growth are rock-lined flower beds, an old stone wall and a hand-dug fish pond: pieces of a garden that had almost disappeared.

"It took THREE DAYS to uncover what was hiding back here" is the most-watched of SB Mowing - Shorts' three uploads this week, reaching roughly 117,000 views. The homeowner explains that her grandmother bought the property in 1957. "This yard, this neighborhood means everything to me," she tells Spencer, who offers to clear it for free.

The job stretches beyond the planned single day, with the homeowner's family dragging brush between workdays. Spencer also replaces a damaged gate to secure the yard for her dogs. Viewers pick up on that extra task, while another points out the peculiar difficulty of the before-and-after photos: the original growth makes it hard to see what there was to photograph.

Elsewhere in the week's uploads, a bag with maggots supplies a rather less inviting lawn-care discovery, while an EquipExpo post marks a change of scene. The older "He was SPEECHLESS when he saw what the backyard looked like" remains the channel's strongest daily draw, ahead of the new garden cleanup.

The channel added about 1.2 million views over the week, with its subscriber total unchanged. Its daily viewing is currently below its usual level. Among nearby home-and-DIY channels, Home RenoVision DIY had a substantially busier week, while DIY Perks was quieter. For Spencer, the week's most substantial new job wasn't simply a shorter lawn: it was making a long-hidden garden accessible again.

What viewers say

  • The before and after pictures are funny. It was so overgrown that there's hardly a way to take a before.
  • Building a new gate is going above and beyond. Well done.
  • Even now I can see how beautiful it used to be. I’m glad you were able to help her get it to a manageable level.
