A chicken pancake from Seoul joins Sam the Cooking Guy's table
Inspired by a recent trip to Korea, it comes topped with a fried egg, chili crisp and a heap of curly green onions.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
This Chicken Dinner Has NO Business Being This Good
Thirty-one hours old, the chicken pancake is already the busiest thing on the channel. It drew more than 80,000 views in its first day, and it is gathering them several times faster than anything else Sam Zien has up right now.
The idea came home with him from Seoul. The description says he could not stop thinking about a Korean-style chicken pancake after the trip: crispy chicken and scallions pressed into one round, then a fried egg, a tall pile of curly green onions, chili crisp, sesame seeds and a sweet, salty, spicy dipping sauce. The tags point toward pajeon, the scallion pancake Korean cooks have made for generations. Two of the chapters return to the trip itself, one titled after the Seoul food experience and a closing stretch back in the city.
The week's other upload stayed closer to home, though it borrowed from France. Crispy chicken thighs sit on gnocchi cooked in a French onion sauce with Gruyère and Parmesan, and it has passed 200,000 views in six days. Chicken, in other words, made both of the week's dinners.
Older plates are still being served too. "The $15 Dinner I Can't Stop Making," a green chile cheeseburger turned into creamy pasta, is sixteen days old and nearing 600,000 views.
Among the cooking channels nearest in size, You Suck At Cooking is having the big stretch, running at well over twice its usual daily pace.
