Boxer crabs bring living gloves to Real Wild's documentary week
Four new films travel from crustacean hideaways to Honshu's hot springs and Antarctica's wave-hunting orcas.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Crustaceans Uncovered: Rare Molting Footage, Boxer Crabs, Mantis Shrimp Vision
Real Wild put some unusually well-equipped animals on the itinerary: crabs carrying anemones, monkeys sharing winter traditions and orcas making their own waves.
The week's most-watched new upload, "Crustaceans Uncovered: Rare Molting Footage, Boxer Crabs, Mantis Shrimp Vision," drew about 8,300 views. Its tour pairs complete molting footage with cleaner shrimp tending reef visitors and gobies sharing burrows with shrimp. The boxer crab's living anemone gloves are a particularly memorable piece of equipment. One viewer's comment picks up on the sheer variety of the group, wondering how lobsters, crabs and spindly skeleton shrimp can all be relatives.
The newer films have the strongest daily momentum. "Wave-Hunting Orcas vs Weddell Seal: Antarctica's Wildest Escape" centers on a seal perched on ice while orcas use coordinated waves to hunt. Close behind is "Snow Monkeys of Honshu: Hot Springs, Grooming Codes and Snowballs," which looks beyond the familiar steaming pools to grooming, social rank and traditions passed through a troop.
The fourth release, "Lake Natron Flamingos, Mara Crossing - Secrets of the Great Rift Valley," connects animal survival with the landscape itself, from flamingo breeding grounds to the Mara River's dangerous crossing.
Across the channel, daily views are almost exactly at their usual level, and the subscriber count was unchanged over the week. Nearby documentary channel Spark added subscribers, while NOVA PBS Official had a substantially larger week for views. Real Wild's own week added roughly 331,000 views, with its freshest momentum coming from Antarctic hunting strategy and the social rules of snow monkeys.

Wait... lobsters, crabs, and those weird-looking skeleton shrimp are all part of the same group?? 😳🦀🦞 Some of these creatures look so different that you'd never guess they were related. Evolution really went wild with crustaceans! 😂🌊
