Mousetales' baby raccoons have a catlike soundtrack
Julie Kobylarz steps outside her usual wildlife work and discovers a sound that has viewers comparing notes.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 189,477 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (14,810).
I am a wildlife rehabber! However- Raccoons aren’t my normal species so , this was new to me 😂 🦝
Julie Kobylarz asks the person off-camera to listen. Holding two young raccoons, she strokes their heads and backs, and a high-pitched chittering fills the clip. "They're like cats," she says.
The Mousetales creator is a wildlife rehabber whose channel centers on helping wildlife and humane rodent trapping. Raccoons, she explains in the title, aren't her normal species. Here, the discovery is hers as much as the viewer's: what these animals sound like when she pets them.
The Short drew an estimated 190,000 views in its first day, roughly thirteen times the channel's usual opening for the format. It's a particularly simple encounter: two animals, a pair of hands and a request to turn up the volume.
That sound is also the focus of the comments. Several viewers compare it to a cat's purr, while others ask what the vocalization means and whether the raccoons are comfortable being held. Kobylarz's own interpretation is more confident. "They love it," she says as the chittering continues.
