OSEES bring twin drums and old cuts to KEXP
Brigid Dawson joins John Dwyer in the Gathering Space, while new sessions stretch from Singaporean dream-pop to LAIKA's musical guests.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
OSEES - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
John Dwyer announces the last song, but OSEES aren't about to make a quick exit. "Block Of Ice" stretches out the finish of their Gathering Space set, giving KEXP viewers another installment of a long-running relationship.
"Hey, thanks very much to KEXP for always supporting us all through these years," Dwyer says between songs. Recorded in August and posted Friday, "OSEES - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)" is the most watched of the station's new uploads this week, with roughly 125,000 views.
Brigid Dawson supplies vocals alongside Dwyer, with Dan Rincon and Paul Quattrone on drums. The set moves from "Plastic Plant" through older material including "Meat Step Lively" and "Enemy Destruct." In the comments, viewers recall listening to Help as teenagers, welcome Dawson's presence and propose synchronized drumming as an Olympic event. Others pick up on the generous gap between announcing the final song and actually finishing.
KEXP posted 15 uploads across the week, and the freshest momentum belongs to motifs. The Singaporean shoegaze and dream-pop band's full session, recorded at Locca Sea House in Bali, is currently drawing views fastest, followed by its individual performances of "Maybe In Another Dream" and "Aug 16." The Bali recordings were presented in partnership with AXEAN.
Another collaboration, this time with animation studio LAIKA, brings Colin Meloy, Ringdown, quickly, quickly, and Omari Jazz with Bocha and Donte Thomas into the Wildwood Sessions. Ringdown's lineup includes composer and violist Caroline Shaw, a different musical texture from OSEES' double-drum charge.
Across the channel, daily views are running well above their usual pace, although subscribers held steady. Nearby music channels GRM Daily and riserecords are also seeing elevated daily viewing. For KEXP, the new sessions offer two distinct entry points: OSEES' familiar return and motifs' five-song introduction from Bali.
