MrBeast with ten hairs or 100,000: Howard Lee's hair-count short

A six-week-old pencil short is pulling far more viewers than it used to, and its comment section has settled on a favorite: the version with 1,000 hairs.

Howard Lee made his name on photorealist drawings in pencil, marker and pastel, the kind of work that can take many hours. His shorts play with that skill in a lighter way. In "Draw Hair Styles!", posted in late August, he sketches MrBeast and keeps changing one thing: how much hair Jimmy Donaldson gets.

The comments map out the steps. One of the most liked jokes is that the ten-hair version is the most realistic. Plenty of viewers vote for 1,000 as the one that looks right. The 100,000-hair version reminds many of them of Michael Jackson, and several play with the name. Others marvel that the pencil survived, and one admits the scratching sound made them think a bee had got into the house.

The short has now passed 700,000 views, and it is picking up new viewers more than six times faster than it usually does. That stands out because the channel as a whole is running well below its usual pace.

The MrBeast edition is part of a run of hairstyle shorts. The Tom Holland version, posted a week earlier, is the giant of the series at more than 16 million views. The Keanu Reeves one, built around John Wick's hair, came a week later. Of the newer uploads, a Wolverine drawing from early October is off to the quickest start.
