A red hat bearing the word "VETO" supplies the clearest statement of what comes next in Harry Sisson's review of Donald Trump's election-night posts: Democrats may have won Congress, but the president is signaling that he can block their legislation.
Before that, there is plenty of blame to distribute. Sisson shows Trump arguing that Republicans would have won had he personally been on the ballot, criticizing Texas Governor Greg Abbott for straying from MAGA, and faulting Fox News for giving airtime to former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Sisson interprets the posts as an effort to distance Trump from his party's defeat.
The video then shifts from written messages to Trump's voice, playing his phone interview with Bret Baier and Shannon Bream. Trump expresses surprise at the results after holding large rallies, then minimizes the setback: "It's just a point in time, Bret, just a point in time." He also acknowledges that voters probably weren't willing to accept higher gasoline prices associated with the Iran war, while maintaining that they support his policy.
The most direct test of his explanation comes near the end. Baier reminds Trump that he had asked voters to pretend he was on the ballot. Trump responds by criticizing the candidates and saying some he endorsed fought him.
Sisson's conclusion is explicitly celebratory and pro-Democratic: he reads the result as a rejection of Trump's administration, rather than the candidate-by-candidate explanation the president offers.
A Republican who has served as governor of Texas since 2015. He previously served as the state's attorney general and as a Texas Supreme Court justice.
