Republican Senator Dan Sullivan is demanding answers about efforts to recruit another Dan Sullivan into Alaska's Senate race, accusing Democrats of trying to confuse voters with a namesake candidate.
Fox News's Fox & Friends examines those allegations through Sullivan's response, a recruitment timeline and legal commentary. The video drew roughly 576,000 views since yesterday.
Citing a New York Times report, the program describes an alleged effort to recruit the second Sullivan to undermine support for the Republican incumbent, who faces Democrat Mary Peltola. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, or DSCC, is the party organization dedicated to electing Democrats to the Senate.
The segment adds a detailed recruitment account to the broader dispute over matching names on Alaska's ballot. Reporter Madeleine Rivera walks through the timeline and Federal Election Commission records. A clip of Times reporter Kellen Browning says Peltola was kept aware of the recruitment efforts. Fox's report also includes denials of the allegations from Peltola and the DSCC.
Legal correspondent Shannon Bream separates the political controversy from a possible legal issue. "What might be illegal is if you lied to federal investigators about this..." she says. That is a conditional assessment, not an announcement of charges over the recruitment effort.
Sullivan calls the alleged effort an outrage. Peltola rejects the controversy's premise: "This is just another distraction. It's another diversion."
