Actor Patrick Stewart passes away at 86 | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia's Sunrise broadcast pauses on a colleague's memory amid its report that Patrick Stewart has died at 86. Back in the studio after a live update from Los Angeles, a host recalls interviewing Hugh Jackman about working with Stewart on "The Sheep Detectives" and their shared history in "X-Men."

"And he said, any opportunity to work with Patrick is a magical thing," the host recalls. It is a brief, personal detail in a segment largely devoted to the announcement.

U.S. correspondent Rob Scott reports that Stewart died at his Los Angeles home, with his wife Sunny beside him, following what his family described as a brief battle with Alzheimer's disease.

The Short drew roughly 62,000 views in eight hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for that format.

In the comments, viewers return to the two roles named in the report: Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Professor Charles Xavier. Several describe Stewart as their childhood captain or professor; one specifically remembers Picard as a character who taught and inspired them.
