Ukraine's Starshield slowdown traced to the White House
Forbes' short report sets Elon Musk's word that Trump "ultimately" decides against an official's denial that the president gave the order himself.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 467,899 views a day, 284 times a normal first day on this channel (1,644).
Order To Limit Ukraine’s Starshield Use Reportedly Came From White House
Who decided to slow Ukraine's military satellite links? Citing Reuters, Forbes reports that the instruction came from inside the White House, and that the Pentagon was told to impose speed limits on Starshield terminals used for Ukrainian drone operations. Starshield is the military-grade version of SpaceX's Starlink internet service.
As we reported here, the earlier question was what the cap did to drone crews. This report moves to where it began. It sets two accounts side by side: Musk had said a day earlier that restrictions on the system are "ultimately" determined by President Donald Trump, while a senior U.S. official told Bloomberg that Trump had not personally directed these ones.
The report closes on Trump's Newsmax interview about Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, which he said push world oil prices higher. "I think that's a disgrace," he says. Those remarks explain his objection to the strikes, not who issued the Starshield instruction.
The Short, voiced by an unnamed narrator over clips of Trump, Musk and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, passed half a million views in little more than a day, far beyond the channel's usual Shorts. Its comment section filled hundreds of times faster than usual, mostly with political reactions to the White House.
Musk also appears in Forbes' other fast-starting Short: Tesla's new Roadster, which he describes as a car that can fly.
