Katie Zacharia's "lawyer" explanation puts bar credentials in focus
Forbes' short report drew roughly 220,000 views in its first day, with an unusually busy comment section.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 219,679 views a day, 135 times a normal first day on this channel (1,628).
Katie Zacharia Says She Was Told She Could Say She’s A ‘Lawyer’ But Not An ‘Attorney’
The response was unusually large. Forbes' report on Katie Zacharia's distinction between calling herself a "lawyer" and an "attorney" reached about 135 times the channel's usual first-day audience for a Short.
As we reported here, the video centers on Zacharia's account that Pepperdine University told her she could use the first term but not the second. The first-day response has since made this a particularly conspicuous upload on a channel whose subjects range from business founders to White House decisions.
Presenter Isabel Togoh connects that explanation to a complaint filed by Campaign for Accountability over whether Zacharia improperly represented herself as licensed to practice law. The complaint is an accusation, not a finding that she broke the law.
The report also examines her previous use of "general counsel" and gives her explanation for an exchange about the bar exam: Zacharia says she misheard a reporter's question as asking where she went after law school, prompting her answer about moving to China.
A separate Forbes Short about reported White House restrictions on Ukraine's Starshield use also drew a far larger audience than usual. For the Zacharia report, the response extended beyond views: hundreds of comments arrived during its first day, compared with only a couple on a typical Forbes Short.

The numbers
The Zacharia report's first-day views and comments were both far above the usual response to a Forbes Short.
