CP24 turned to former Toronto homicide detective Mark Mendelson to explain how investigators could reconstruct the movements of suspects in the Bridle Path home invasion that left three people shot.
Speaking with reporter Bia Viezman, Mendelson points to neighborhood surveillance footage as a way to identify suspects and trace vehicle routes. He makes a striking comparison: "There are more cameras in that particular neighborhood than there probably is at Pearson Airport." It is his description of the area's camera coverage, not a count.
Viezman reports that three suspects entered the Park Lane Circle home, went upstairs to the bedrooms and shot three occupants. A neighbor describes residents' fear and the use of private security patrols.
Mendelson says he believes the attack was targeted rather than a random robbery. That is his assessment of the circumstances, not an announced police finding.
The interview drew about 95,000 views in eight hours, an unusually fast start for a regular CP24 upload. The channel's shorter detective segment and its evening newscast covering the shooting also drew substantially more views than usual for their respective formats.
The discussion goes beyond the search for camera footage. Mendelson explains why police may keep details of demands or stolen property confidential: those details can help investigators assess information from people who say they know what happened inside the home.
