Kansas and Maine have no clear leader in CNN's new Senate polls, extending the network's election story beyond the Democratic advantage in Texas we reported here earlier today.
CNN also finds Democrat Abdul El-Sayed ahead of Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan. Together, the four contests suggest a possible route to Democratic Senate control, the network reports, while emphasizing that a change in the majority is far from assured.
In Kansas, political director David Chalian highlights Adam Hamilton's support among independents: six in ten back the Democratic nominee against Republican Roger Marshall. That support is central to CNN's explanation of why the contest is competitive.
In Maine, Chalian draws attention to the motivation behind support for Jackson: a large majority of those voters describe their choice as a vote against Susan Collins. Across the four states, he identifies a broader difficulty for Republican candidates: "Donald Trump is playing as a negative factor for Republicans."
The segment, which drew about 1.4 million views since yesterday, moves from the polling graphics to a discussion of what Michigan voters want. CNN's panel notes that the economy and cost of living rank well above foreign policy among their stated priorities.
A BBC interview clip gives that finding a direct expression. Michigan salon owner Nicole Williams is asked about her voting concerns and answers: "Don't matter to me. Lower my cost of living."
