Jack Mancuso turns a Great Barrier Reef catch into tacos
His beachside cookout with fisherman Chris Bolton gets a fresh burst of attention eleven days after posting.
Why this story? The video is running at 251,004 views a day, 15 times its usual pace (16,481).
Coral Trout Catch n Cook at the Great Barrier Reef
What happens to lunch if Jack Mancuso comes back empty-handed? "If we don't catch anything, we're making fishless fish tacos," he says before heading out at the Great Barrier Reef. There is no backup fish.
That small gamble opens "Coral Trout Catch n Cook at the Great Barrier Reef," which has added roughly a quarter of a million views in a day, about fifteen times its usual daily pace. The burst comes well after its first-day debut, not with a new upload.
Mancuso describes himself as a dude grilling in his backyard rather than a chef. Here, the backyard gives way to a reef viewed through a see-through cone, followed by fishing with local fisherman Chris Bolton. The video is a paid partnership with @australia.
Once they're ashore, the catch gets two very different treatments. A fish identified as football trout is filleted, seasoned and grilled beside tortillas. Mancuso makes mango salsa with red onion, cilantro and Australian jalapeño, then builds tacos with slaw. Bolton also pours guava sauce over raw fish slices for sashimi.
The raw preparation prompts a practical question in the comments: should the fish have been frozen first? Other viewers single out coral trout itself and Bolton's involvement. This isn't Mancuso's only Australian catch-and-cook outing, either: an earlier video traded reef fish for mud crab.
