Matt Rhule won't let Nebraska dance to Oregon's "Shout" again

CFB ON FOX pairs the coach's change of heart with footage of his players joining in Oregon's fourth-quarter tradition.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 291,682 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (20,968).

Permission revoked. Matt Rhule let Nebraska's players enjoy Oregon's "Shout" tradition before the fourth quarter, but his postgame verdict leaves little room for another dance break.

CFB ON FOX's Short cuts between the Cornhuskers jumping on the field and their head coach explaining why he allowed it. Rhule says UCLA had done it before, and he wanted his players to enjoy the moment before locking back in.

His reasoning reaches back to former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne: play physically through the opening three quarters to win the fourth. The celebration wasn't supposed to replace that last part.

"We didn't win the fourth quarter, and that's not my DNA," Rhule says.

The clip drew roughly 160,000 views in its first nine hours, running far ahead of the channel's usual Shorts pace. In the comments, viewers pick apart the distinction between enjoying a stadium tradition and finishing a game. Some question the fourth-quarter execution rather than the dancing; others point out that Oregon's ritual is about its own crowd having fun.

Celebrations are drawing attention elsewhere on the channel, too: a separate Short showing Tennessee fans storming the field after a win over Alabama also made an unusually strong start. Rhule's clip offers the less festive aftermath: a coach reconsidering the permission he gave.
