BarDown puts Penguins baby blue first in outdoor jersey draft

The podcast crew picks its favorite outdoor-game looks, while viewers make a case for Philadelphia's missing Winter Classic jersey.

The players aren't being drafted this time. Their clothes are. BarDown's podcast crew builds a board of favorite NHL outdoor-game jerseys, with Luca opening the selection: "Give me the baby blue Pittsburgh Penguins. It's so iconic."

That choice sets up a draft full of throwback colors and competing tastes. Winnipeg's navy jersey goes next, followed by Vancouver's burgundy Heritage Classic look. Chicago and another Pittsburgh design come off the board together in back-to-back picks.

The Short has drawn about 60,000 views in fourteen hours, with an estimated first-day pace nearly eight times BarDown's usual for the format. Its comment section is already more than ten times as busy as a typical full first day.

Viewers aren't just choosing among the finished selections. Several point to the Flyers' 2012 Winter Classic jersey as an omission, with one also putting the Rangers' design from that game forward. Others nominate Ottawa's cream Heritage Classic jersey and Calgary's outdoor look. The discussion becomes a second draft, this time of the shirts viewers wanted on the board.

On the actual board, the Colorado Avalanche's Nordiques-inspired jersey gets an especially direct endorsement from the host in the Solar Bears cap: "Give me that Nordiques tarp. It's beautiful." Luca later adds Washington and Detroit before rounding out his selections with Montreal's Heritage Classic jersey.
