As Final Israel Vote Count Nears, President Herzog Urges Compromise to Break Electoral Stalemate
Avoiding another trip to the polls is President Isaac Herzog's clearest demand of Israel's incoming politicians. How they would reach the compromise he wants is much less clear.
CBN News correspondent Joshua Swanson's report sets that appeal against an unresolved election count: Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc leads, but neither it nor the opposition led by Gadi Eisenkot has a governing majority. The Short drew roughly 343,000 views in 13 hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for the format.
Arab parties are central to the impasse. CBN reports a record projected seat total for them, alongside high turnout, while other parties rule out bringing them into a coalition. Herzog's call for common ground therefore runs into a practical obstacle: potential partners are already excluding one another.
The report also steps away from the seat projections to hear from people on Tel Aviv's promenade. Artsi Wine says, "I was hoping for a change. There was no change." Rafael Farhi points instead to the sunshine, the seashore and everyday life before offering his own response: "So we are very optimistic, and nothing will break us."
Israel’s president since 2021, Herzog is the first person born in the country after independence to hold the office.
