CBC's AI week moves from PHP security to Anthropic's ownership

Andrew Chang's About That explainers examine both a software vulnerability and the power founders retain as an AI company prepares to go public.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

AI supplied two very different questions for CBC News: what can it break, and who gets to control it?

Andrew Chang's PHP explainer was the most watched of the channel's 70 uploads this week, approaching a million views. It explains how researchers at cybersecurity firm used AI to uncover a vulnerability, then follows the hurried effort to secure affected systems after information leaked. Chang makes the technical problem tangible with an overwhelmed-waiter analogy for software leaking confidential information.

As we reported here, the episode's important distinction is between closing a security hole and removing intruders already inside. Its substantial opening-day audience accounts for more than half its views so far.

The newer "How Anthropic's IPO creates a single 'God share' | About That" shifts from computer access to corporate power. Chang examines an ownership structure that, the episode explains, makes the founders exceptionally difficult to overrule. That upload has passed 400,000 views and is currently drawing more daily views than the PHP report.

Across the channel, subscribers were unchanged over seven days, while daily viewing is running below its usual pace. Reuters and NowThis Impact are experiencing stronger-than-usual daily viewing; Global News is quieter. CBC nevertheless recorded one of the larger weekly view gains among these nearby broadcasters.

AI also carries into CBC's freshest coverage: Mark Carney's announcement about what his office calls Canada's "AI digital sovereignty" is among the channel's busiest uploads right now.
