2027 Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero tested off-road! Is it too expensive?
Things we can learn from the video
Press to jump
- 0:40Expected Australian pricing starts below A$70,000; the GSR shown costs A$84,990 before on-road charges.
- 3:01The engine is a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel, paired with Mitsubishi's Super Select four-wheel-drive system.
- 4:05The cabin gets Yamaha audio, physical climate toggles and displays, with Maric noting a step up from Triton.
- 7:31Off-road driving begins; this pre-production vehicle isn't being tested on public roads.
- 10:19Uneven moguls and a muddy climb test traction control, followed by hill-descent assistance and manual braking.
- 14:12Maric inspects the suspension dampers, bump stops and rear axle beneath the vehicle.
The first car Paul Maric ever reviewed was a Pajero. Returning to the badge two decades later, he finds a more luxurious cabin, a price to match and an important restriction: this pre-production Mitsubishi isn't available for him to test on public roads.
The dirt tracks are another matter. CarExpert's preview of the returning Pajero drew roughly 176,000 views in its first day, nearly eight times the channel's usual start for a regular video.
Mitsubishi's new model shares components with the Triton pickup, but Maric finds a clear step up inside. There are physical climate toggles, a Yamaha audio system and a cabin that has viewers comparing it with the Ford Everest Platinum. The top-spec GSR shown carries an Australian price of about A$85,000 before on-road costs. Several commenters weigh that against the Toyota Prado rather than treating the price in isolation.
The diesel engine is another talking point: some viewers want more power, while others argue that the available torque is enough. Maric takes the vehicle over ruts, uneven moguls and a muddy climb, assessing how promptly its traction control responds. On a steep descent, he tries the electronic assistance and camera views before taking back manual braking control.
This is familiar territory for CarExpert, whose most-watched regular upload is a large off-road SUV comparison. Here, though, the test is also a personal return to Maric's starting point, with an undercarriage inspection rounding out a first taste rather than a full road review.
