Beyond the Observable Universe puts planetary travel times on the itinerary

Three new animations explore journeys through the solar system, solar storms and how fast planets spin.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

How long would it take to reach the other planets? Beyond the Observable Universe made that the week's biggest new draw, with its travel-time animation reaching roughly 360,000 views.

The comments supply both practical questions and character appreciation. One viewer points out that the answer depends on the rocket's speed; another asks where Pluto fits in. Elsewhere, Jupiter's glasses get a welcome-back message and Mars's cowboy hat gets a mention. For a channel devoted to making physics approachable, the planetary wardrobe has clearly become part of the conversation.

The other new uploads tackle what causes solar storms and how fast planets spin. The solar-storm animation attracted the larger audience so far, though the rotation video arrived later and is currently drawing more views per day.

Older explanations carry the strongest daily momentum. The month-old light-speed comparison is the busiest, followed by the animation about how little water Earth has and a look at Earth's future timeline. The water video, which passed a million views around the time of our earlier note, has since grown several times larger.

Altogether, the channel added roughly fourteen million views over seven days, while its subscriber count stayed unchanged. That was the largest weekly viewing gain among its nearby science-channel peers. VideoFromSpace also had a substantial week; Cody'sLab was quieter. Beyond the Observable Universe's daily viewing is now well above its usual level, with the light-speed animation doing the most work.
