Nails, heat and changing colors fill NileRed's upload break
With nothing new posted, the chemistry channel added roughly 14.6 million views across its existing videos.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
This magnet machine is scary
An induction heater bought on eBay gives ordinary nails a rather less ordinary destination in NileRed's "Liquefying nails is crazy." More than a year after publication, the experiment is drawing around 36,000 views a day, one of the channel's busiest videos right now.
There were no new uploads this week, but the back catalog offers plenty of transformations to catch up on. "Making color changing mercury" turns shiny metal into mercury(II) iodide, a compound whose color changes with temperature. That property, thermochromism, supplies the chemistry behind what NileRed describes as something magical.
The more recent "This magnet machine is scary" remains the strongest daily draw of the three. Its demonstration sends nails, tools and a heavy chain snapping toward a magnetizing machine, equipment NileRed says he needs for making neodymium magnets.
Across the channel, daily viewing is running below its usual level, while the subscriber count stayed unchanged over the week. Even so, NileRed had the second-largest weekly view gain in this science-and-experiments group, behind Cleo Abram. An upload break hasn't stopped these older experiments from finding a substantial audience.
