Kiefer Sutherland's musical memories take center stage on BBC Radio 2

Vernon Kay's guest picks songs from The Clash to Alanis Morissette, while Linda Perry revisits Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful."

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Kiefer Sutherland Ruined David Bowie’s Night Out?! 😂Kiefer Sutherland Ruined David Bowie’s Night Out?! 😂

Which songs does Jack Bauer's actor keep close? Kiefer Sutherland's Tracks Of My Years selection stretches from The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" to Alanis Morissette's "Ironic," with David Bowie's "Changes" along the way.

Sutherland supplied the biggest new audience among BBC Radio 2's eight uploads. "Kiefer Sutherland Ruined David Bowie's Night Out?! 😂" reached about 45,000 views, narrowly above his full song-selection interview. Talking with Vernon Kay, he reflects on growing up with actor parents Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, his early film career and meeting musical heroes. Viewers bring their own Bowie concert memories to the replies, including one whose first concert came during the Station to Station era.

The Bowie clip is also the channel's busiest video for daily views right now. Johnny Marr's conversation about Oasis, his album The Age of Everything and potential collaborators is drawing fresh attention too, alongside Josh Hartnett discussing the unexpectedly daunting prospect of Celebrity Gogglebox.

Radio 2 added subscribers over the week and brought in nearly 600,000 views. Daily viewing is a little above its usual pace. Among similarly sized entertainment channels, BBC Antiques Roadshow and Etalk had substantially busier viewing weeks, while Star Trek's was smaller.

There was room for the people behind the music as well as those who choose it. Linda Perry discusses giving "Beautiful" to Christina Aguilera, a song Perry wrote for Aguilera's Stripped album. And Professor Brian Cox joins Sara to revisit his days with rock band Dare: a rather different kind of keyboard work from explaining the universe.
