The train that struck a stationary service near Urda was travelling at nearly 200 km/h, investigators say in BBC News's latest report on Spain's rail disaster. The finding adds a crucial detail to the inquiry, but does not by itself explain why the collision happened.

The report says at least 69 people died when the Madrid-Seville train crashed on Wednesday morning. Sarah Rainsford's footage shows emergency crews working among the wreckage as removal operations continue.

At the centre of the investigation are leaked recordings of exchanges with the Madrid control centre. In the BBC's translation, a driver is instructed to continue at normal speed and asks for confirmation. Another driver reports being unable to control the train's security system and says that is why the train remains stopped. The exchanges raise questions about the instructions and safeguards before the impact; the report does not establish responsibility.

Outside Toledo Hospital, Celia describes a more immediate uncertainty. Her father was hospitalised, but her mother is still missing. "They were together when it happened, but got separated," she says.

The upload drew roughly a quarter of a million views in its first five and a half hours. Beyond the investigation, it follows King Felipe and Queen Letizia's hospital visit and Rajini Vaidyanathan's update from Toledo, where families are providing DNA samples to help identify victims.
