405 km/h down the Mulsanne: Le Mans before the chicanes, on 9EPIC
A ten-day-old clip of Group C prototypes has passed 440,000 views, while a pit-lane fire from Michael Schumacher's 2003 season led the new uploads.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Insane Speeds of Le Mans Cars…Before They Slowed Them Down 🤬
The video doing nearly all the work on 9EPIC right now goes back to a time when Le Mans had no brakes on its ambitions. "The Insane Speeds of Le Mans Cars…Before They Slowed Them Down" is a short reel of Group C machinery, from the Porsche 962 to the Jaguar XJR-9, built around one figure: the 405 km/h that Roger Dorchy reached in the WM-Peugeot P88 in 1988. Two years later the Mulsanne Straight got its two chicanes, and the record has stood ever since. Ten days in, the clip has passed 440,000 views and is still gathering several times more a day than anything newer on the shelf.
The channel, which credits the original filmers in each description, added four uploads. The best of the first day belonged to "The Real OG of F1 - Car on Fire No Stress", the 2003 Austrian Grand Prix pit stop where fuel lit up around the back of Schumacher's Ferrari. He rejoined and won the race anyway. Viewers mostly joke about his calm, picturing him waiting on the mechanics like an impatient customer, and one points out that it is always a Ferrari. A rally near miss, with spectators far too close to the action, is the one picking up speed now, and a 1967 Mustang fastback closed the run quietly.
Around all that, the audience held its usual pace, with about a thousand new subscribers. Among the car channels nearest its size, 9EPIC sat in the middle for views gained, while Oakland Auto Detail had an enormous week and Pico Automotive Diagnostics ran far beyond its usual days.
