The driver's window jams open in the rain before Brocko has made much progress. It is an uncomfortable start to a homecoming that soon involves rather more than getting wet.
4WD 24-7's Tasmania episode sends him toward Zeehan in the battered 60 Series LandCruiser, with Jock and the convoy taking the difficult route through the Tarkine's Mile of Mud. The video drew more than 216,000 views in its first 21 hours, far beyond the channel's usual opening day.
The old Toyota makes its limitations clear early. Brocko slips sideways into a deep rut, then uses bilge pumps to clear the muddy water that has flooded inside. Later, a log catches the passenger-side window and shatters it. "Everything is going wrong!" he says.
Nor is this solely the LandCruiser's ordeal. O'Dell's Mitsubishi Triton starts sliding toward a steep bank and needs winches at both ends to stabilize and recover it.
The incident promised by the title comes during the night recovery: a dead tree being used as a winch anchor collapses onto the 60. A bent steering arm subsequently gets a trackside repair, with the crew camping mid-route before continuing toward Ring River Track.
Among the comments, Brocko himself is a recurring subject. Viewers discuss his ease on camera and how much of a driving test the old LandCruiser has given him. One has a different request: footage of the mud-covered convoy back on the highway.
