Zach's Tech Turf trades RGB for Linux and olive green
His gaming PC makeover keeps the expensive components, but the choice of Linux distribution has viewers offering recommendations and familiar jokes.
Why this story? The video drew 1,847 comments in its first day, 6 times a normal first day on this channel (309).
Time to Ditch My Current Gaming PC 🥲
Zach from Zach's Tech Turf isn't throwing out the powerful parts: his Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5090 are staying. What he wants to leave behind is the look of his daily gaming PC, along with the operating system.
The move to Linux comes with a personal design decision: no more RGB lighting. Managing several lighting ecosystems through OpenRGB proved inconvenient for him, so he's opting for a less illuminated setup rather than carrying that chore into the rebuild.
His current Hyte Y70 has an integrated screen that he found useful during live streams. Its replacement will be an olive green Corsair Warthog, chosen to suit his woodgrain desk and dark office. His wife's compact Fractal Terra isn't the answer for his own machine: he needs room to swap graphics cards frequently.
The case is settled. The software isn't. "I just haven't decided which distro to run yet. Any suggestions?" he asks. A distribution is a packaged version of Linux, with its own tools and approach to installing and updating software.
That question helped give viewers something concrete to discuss. Comments arrived at six times the channel's usual first-day pace for Shorts, while views were ordinary. CachyOS recommendations include accounts of moving over from Windows; others weigh customization against ease of maintenance. The familiar "I use Arch" joke makes repeated appearances, and someone proposes the rather less predictable Hannah Montana Linux.
Zach has committed to the switch, but hasn't picked which version of Linux will run inside that green case.

CachyOS allows you to customize the really nitty gritty of the operating system if you really want to. It’s also very bleeding edge on the newest features and offers a few % more performance in some cases, being Arch-based. Bazzite is a bit more immutable but that also means you can’t royally mess something up if you don’t know what you’re doing, but you can still customize it pretty in-depth regardless, and it’s still cutting edge, just a few days behind CachyOS on some features. Nobara I have not tried, refer to others’ opinions.
I tried Bazzite and switched over to CachyOS, and I’ve liked…@VoidHxnterRead it all on YouTubeFor gaming uses, CachyOS is pretty good and a popular option.
