A convenience-store stop supplies an unexpected traveling companion: Ammar Kandil, back alongside Thomas Brag and Staffan Taylor for an Alaska adventure. Yes Theory posted nothing new this week, but that reunion has had plenty of room to travel. "50 hours in a Secret Russian town in America" has reached roughly 7.7 million views.

The journey's pleasures are in its unlikely connections. In Nikolaevsk, cinematographer Daniel speaks Portuguese with Teresa, an Old Believer resident who moved from Brazil. At the Samovar Russian Cafe, Nina Fefelov serves borsch and fireweed bread, films the visitors on her phone and recruits a visitor named Jeff for playful homemade advertisements. The travelers have brought cameras, but Nina has production ideas of her own.

Later, the team offers postmistress and storekeeper Kira a seaplane outing over mountains and glaciers. A remote lake becomes an opportunity for Thomas and Ammar to take a very cold swim. It's a fairly literal expression of the channel's comfort-zone philosophy.

The Alaska upload is drawing far more daily views than the channel's other momentum videos, including its search for a man living alone in the Amazon and "Inside America's poorest region everyone forgot." Across the channel, daily viewing is above its usual pace, and the past seven days brought another 100,000 subscribers.

Among nearby travel channels, Kurt Caz and Abroad in Japan are also seeing daily viewing well above their usual levels. Yes Theory collected the largest weekly view gain in this group, without adding a single new upload to its itinerary.
