Spring's hot-and-cold turns keep WeatherWatchTV's maps busy

Philip Duncan's ten-upload week covered Australian thunderstorms and a New Zealand southerly, with off-camera updates planned while he is away with family.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Queensland could get a soaking, while New Zealand's early-week warmth comes with a colder ending. WeatherWatchTV's latest forecasts give spring plenty of room to change its mind, but Philip Duncan keeps returning to an important distinction: a broad storm-risk zone does not mean rain for everyone beneath it.

The most watched of the week's ten uploads, "Oz: Severe storms, multiple states affected", reached roughly 52,000 views. Its outlook traced thunderstorms from Western Australia and Queensland through the Northern Territory and South Australia, then eastward, with a Bathurst forecast included. In the comments, viewers discuss the usefulness of the color-coded rain and wind maps. Others share local experiences, including noisy storms around Perth and dry paddocks in southeastern Tasmania.

The newer "Oz: Downpours on the move, Qld soaking possible" is drawing the most daily views right now. Duncan explains how neighboring locations could receive markedly different rainfall totals, even within the same unsettled pattern. Close behind for current viewing is "NZ: Hotter, but Wintry Snap coming late week", which forecasts mountain snow and a sharp fall in daytime temperatures as a southerly moves north. Wind chill for newborn lambs gives that temperature change a practical consequence beyond deciding what to wear.

The channel added about 1,000 subscribers over seven days and had the largest weekly view gain among its nearby science-channel peers. Made Vision also drew a substantial weekly audience, while Fran Blanche and The Signal Path had more modest view gains.

There is a small change to the familiar presentation ahead: Duncan says he will keep producing updates while away with family, but off camera and outside the usual studio. Publishing times may shift, and he is asking viewers whether the longer Australian update needs tightening.

  • Hopefully things turn a corner soon for us in South Eastern Tasmania... very dry here, paddocks are starting to brown off which is scary for early October.
