Tim Daly has a brief verdict on the old footage: "Oh, the shame."

TODAY has brought out images of his and Téa Leoni's first appearances on the show, and the hairstyles quickly become the subject. Leoni greets hers with disbelief: "Oh my God. Look at those bangs. That was such a bad idea." Then comes her diagnosis: "Those are like Covid bangs."

The appearances date to 1989 for Daly and 1997 for Leoni. But the short doesn't stay in self-roasting mode. Leoni turns toward Daly's younger self and tells him, "You're so cute. Look at you."

That small exchange has drawn about 26,000 views in nine hours, putting the Short well ahead of TODAY's usual early pace. The bangs joke also gets a mention in the comments.

There's a reason for the joint visit beyond the archive. The real-life couple, who played husband and wife in Madam Secretary, are working together again in the sitcom Newlyweds. Their companion interview, "Téa Leoni and Tim Daly on Playing Newlyweds in New Sitcom", is also drawing views unusually quickly for a regular TODAY video. Its description includes Leoni's succinct take on their working familiarity: "We don't need an intimacy coordinator."
