2 Dead, 11 Injured After Mom Plows Truck Through Youth Soccer Game in Kansas
A law enforcement official at a podium walks through the first minutes of Saturday's tragedy in Wichita, Kansas, in a news conference clip from LiveNOW from FOX that TMZ has posted as a Short.
At about 3:25 p.m., he says, Sedgwick County emergency communications "began receiving multiple reports of a vehicle that had driven through a youth soccer game" at the Stryker Complex. Wichita police and firefighters, Sedgwick County EMS and the sheriff's office, the Kansas Highway Patrol and Bel Aire police all responded. When they reached the field on the west side of the complex, community members were already giving medical help to the injured.
The truck was found on that same side of the field, with the driver still there. The official says the driver has been cooperating with the investigation.
Two people died at the scene, a child and a man, who were not related to each other. EMS took eleven more people to area hospitals, and ten of them had traumatic injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The clip shows the briefing, not the incident itself. It has drawn far more viewers than TMZ's other uploads from the same day, which included red-carpet clips from the Academy Museum Gala. Comments arrived many times faster than on a usual TMZ Short, mostly people asking how this could happen and sending prayers to the families.
