Unplugging RTX Spark gives The Tech Chap a MacBook question

Tom tests Nvidia-powered Windows laptops on battery, in Blender and against his MacBook Pro, without quite committing to a switch.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

  1. 2:00The Asus ProArt P16 combines an RTX Spark N1X chip with unified memory shared by its processing hardware.
  2. 5:35Some multiplayer games fail to launch because their anti-cheat systems are incompatible with ARM-based Windows.
  3. 7:23Tom demonstrates gaming and rendering unplugged, reporting performance close to what he gets on mains power.
  4. 9:09Benchmarks compare Spark with an RTX 5090 laptop and an M5 Max MacBook Pro.
  5. 13:43Local AI demonstrations include language models and automated video-editing scripts running on the device.
  6. 15:54Tom is not ready to abandon his MacBook Pro, but says the Spark laptops have come closer.

Tom pulls the charger out while gaming and rendering, and the performance barely changes. For someone who moved from a Dell XPS to a MacBook Pro six years ago, that is a meaningful reason to look across the laptop aisle again.

"Can RTX Spark Replace My MacBook Pro?" was the busiest of The Tech Chap's four uploads this week, reaching roughly 376,000 views. The review puts Nvidia's new Windows laptop hardware through benchmarks, thermal-camera tests and local AI workloads. Tom says battery performance stays close to plugged-in performance, but there is a catch: some competitive multiplayer games will not launch because of anti-cheat compatibility problems on ARM-based Windows.

His answer to the title's question is not yet. In the comments, the practical questions continue: can an expensive new platform justify MacBook-level prices before establishing a reliability record? Other viewers describe their experience with Snapdragon laptops or weigh a Spark purchase against buying a used MacBook and building a gaming PC.

A separate ASUS ProArt P14 and P16 guide extends the laptop testing. Apple supplied the week's other subject, with two HomeView hands-on uploads examining its smart display and Siri AI, including the pointedly titled "Apple HomeView Impressions - Not What I Expected."

Across the channel, weekly views reached roughly 1.9 million, while subscribers were unchanged. Daily viewing is close to its usual level. Among nearby tech channels, META PCs had a particularly busy week, while LGR and TronicsFix are currently running below their usual daily viewing levels.

The older uploads contributing most momentum include two Huawei Watch D3 videos, both explicitly labeled as ads. Alongside the Spark review, they make the channel's busiest viewing a mixture of new laptop testing and wearable coverage from September.

What viewers say

  • Not for now. Selling for MacBook prices without a reliability track record isn’t very comforting…
  • if they were around 1.5k to 2k I would definitely consider but at those prices you can buy a used MacBook and build a great gaming pc
  • I own a first gen Snapdragon X windows laptop for general use and it's been great! But the fact that it didn't take off makes me skeptical of the market impact of the RTX Spark

  • I love the innovation with the Spark, and that it brings competition to the market which is good for us the consumer. Still happy I got the m5 max earlier this year, but look forward to see how the Spark evolves.
