Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

The Epic Viking Battle at York (Matthew MacFadyen) | The Last Kingdom

Where do you return when there is no new installment? On The Last Kingdom's official channel, the opening struggle for Northumbria remains a substantial draw, with roughly half a million views added across the library during an upload-free week.

The strongest daily momentum belongs to "The Epic Viking Battle at York (Matthew MacFadyen) | The Last Kingdom", now past a million views. Taken from the first episode, it brings Lord Uhtred, King Aella and King Osbert onto the field near York, where the Saxon charge meets the Vikings' shield wall. Matthew Macfadyen plays Lord Uhtred, a rather different patriarch from his later role as Tom Wambsgans in Succession.

These clips revisit the foundations of Uhtred's story rather than its later quest for a united England. "The Vikings Arrive | The Last Kingdom" follows Earl Ragnar's fleet into Northumbria and young Uhtred's defiant encounter with the newcomers. The chapel confrontation in "Shot to Death With Arrows | The Last Kingdom" has the larger lifetime audience, though the York sequence is drawing substantially more views each day.

Subscribers stayed unchanged. Viewing today is also well below the channel's usual daily pace, even as those early episodes keep attracting attention. Among nearby movie-and-TV channels, Tyler Movies and Morpheline had much larger viewing weeks; The Last Kingdom's own week belongs to its first-season archive.
