The Johnson Brothers' new comedy Short turns a backyard invasion into a roll call of familiar personalities. A suited negotiator tries communicating through a keyboard. A foil-hatted conspiracy theorist celebrates being vindicated, while the designated Earth Defender points a green toy launcher at the sky. The looter has rather more local ambitions.

The sketch drew roughly four million views since yesterday. In the comments, viewers are picking out Monsters vs. Aliens references and finding a kindred spirit in the man who refuses to stop working.

That contrast gives the elaborate sci-fi setup its everyday joke: even an extraterrestrial emergency cannot get the whole friend group on the same page.
