Isaiah picks up his backpack, says he's moving away and shuts the front door. Then the house starts shaking. In The Johnson Brothers' sketch, losing the person who holds everyone together isn't just awkward for the group chat: it's a threat to everyone's existence.

The Short drew an estimated seven million views in its first day, more than six times the channel's usual start for the format. It's a familiar social worry given an absurdly literal treatment: without the organizer, the connector, the friend everyone knows, does the group still exist?

The friend in pink has already worked out the cosmic rules. "There is no friend group without him," he explains. "The universe won't allow it." As the others begin fading away, one makes a last attempt at optimism, asking whether they can still hang out.

This is a staged comedy sketch, but the comments bring it back to recognizable friendships. One viewer recalls separate groups that drifted apart after the person who made the plans moved away. Others reach for Avengers comparisons, particularly Spider-Man's frightened farewell to Tony Stark in Infinity War.

The brothers have recently imagined friends behaving like siblings and coping with an alien invasion. Here, simply moving away gets the disaster-movie treatment.

What viewers say

  • Bro literally holds the lore of the entire friend group together.
  • This is something that has legit happened to 2 separate friend groups. The leader/charismatic one that plans everything moves away and the rest of us just fall apart, been years since I’ve seen any of them

  • The whole friend group literally factory reset when he left.
