- 1:10Jamnadas explains how arterial plaque can rupture and trigger a blood clot that causes a heart attack.
- 5:43An animation shows how angioplasty uses a catheter, balloon and stent to reopen a blocked artery.
- 6:42The title's belly-fat discussion begins with the young patient's visceral fat, fatty liver and prediabetes.
- 7:55Jamnadas says insulin testing revealed elevated levels years before some patients received a diabetes diagnosis.
- 9:10He links frequent carbohydrate and sugar intake with elevated insulin, insulin resistance and visceral fat.
- 14:27His closing argument: blood glucose alone can miss a prolonged period of elevated insulin.
Dr Pradip Jamnadas remembers treating a heart attack patient who was just 28. Investigating why it had happened led him beyond the blocked artery to the patient's abdominal fat, fatty liver and insulin levels.
That case anchors "If YOU Have Belly Fat, You NEED To See This", an excerpt from Steven Bartlett's podcast on The Diary Of A CEO Clips. Despite the title's focus on body fat, this is an explanation of cardiovascular risk, not a weight-loss routine.
Jamnadas first uses diagrams to explain how plaque develops inside arteries and how a rupture can trigger a clot. "It's not the plaque that shuts it off, it's the blood clot," he says. An animation then shows how a balloon and stent can reopen a blocked artery.
The belly-fat discussion arrives around seven minutes in. Jamnadas describes visceral fat, the fat surrounding internal organs, and explains why he began using glucose-tolerance and insulin tests in his practice. He says these revealed patients whose insulin was already high before they received a diabetes diagnosis.
His central argument is that frequent carbohydrate and sugar intake can keep insulin elevated, contributing to insulin resistance and visceral fat. By the closing section, he is urging attention to insulin rather than relying on blood glucose alone: in his account, that distinction can expose years of warning signs before diabetes is diagnosed.
