A brass quintet's 'Spark!' outruns a dozen TED uploads

The day-old music performance is gathering views faster than any talk on the channel, while a productivity episode still holds the most views of the week.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Twelve uploads went up on TED, almost all of them talks, and the one moving fastest has no speaker at all. "“Spark!” | Bulldog Brass Society Quintet | TED" is barely a day old and is drawing views at more than three times the pace of anything else the channel posted.

Music runs through the rest of the week too. Gabriella Di Laccio's "The Missing Half of Music History | Gabriella Di Laccio | TED" opened strongly and is still one of the busiest videos two days in. Keeping pace with it is a new short, "Is this why adult friendships feel so hard?", which asks a question plenty of viewers apparently wanted answered.

The older uploads from the week are the ones with the biggest totals. "How to Escape Your Obsession with Productivity | TED Intersections" leads, with just over 100,000 views, and Jessica Malaty Rivera's talk on the infodemic sits close behind. Ari Matusiak's look at AI's energy problem started quickly and has since settled into a slower rhythm.

In the explainers and education group, TED is the largest of nine channels by subscribers, with its sibling TED-Ed next in line. After a week of sharp ideas, a brass fanfare turned out to be the thing people pressed play on first.
