Techmoan's home cinema upgrade has a lid problem

The XGIMI review pairs PS5 gaming tests with a practical snag: its motorized cover won't fit his existing media-console drawer.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Things we can learn from the video

Press to jump

  1. 5:46Dark-room and lit-room footage tests contrast and the ambient-light-rejecting screen.
  2. 10:56Scenes from Silo demonstrate shadow detail and black levels against the screen border.
  3. 13:31PS5 games, including Street Fighter 6, test the projector's high-frame-rate mode.
  4. 17:19The remote lacks dedicated mute and HDMI-switch buttons, and the motorized lid conflicts with his console drawer.
  5. 20:00Techmoan explains how pixel shifting produces the projected 4K image.
  6. 23:30The full setup cost includes suitable furniture, a screen and consideration of room lighting.

Street Fighter 6 gets a turn on Techmoan's projector screen, but the less glamorous furniture test proves just as revealing. The XGIMI Aura 3 Max's motorized lens cover doesn't suit his existing media-console drawer. Even an impressive home cinema gadget has to live somewhere.

There were no new uploads this week, leaving that review as the channel's busiest video right now. It has reached roughly 319,000 views. XGIMI provided the projector free of charge, and Techmoan says he is keeping it, with no additional payment made.

The review moves between shadow detail in Silo, built-in speaker tests and high-frame-rate PS5 gaming. There's also a useful update in the description: he says firmware installed on September 30 brought the keystone correction and wall-flatness adjustment features into working order and improved the response of the black-level enhancement.

Older technology supplies the other active viewing draws. "Peak Portable Stereo? Victor RC-X90" asks whether portable stereo reached its high point in 1988, while ""Just play your CDs in a Blu-ray player…"" questions the convenience of using a video-disc machine for music. It's a very Techmoan spread: a new laser projector alongside hardware built around physical discs and cassettes.

The channel added roughly 347,000 views over the week, with its subscriber total unchanged. Daily viewing is currently less than half its usual pace. Nearby gadget channels had busier weeks, including Insert Richie, while Brandon Butch is drawing above his usual daily audience.

Techmoan's projector review ends up concerned with more than the picture: screens, furniture and room lighting all belong in the purchase decision. The lid is a small detail, but it makes that point neatly.
