Simon Wilson's Louisiana grits encounter is more than a month old, but it is currently drawing the most daily views of any video on his channel. "Trying Grits in Louisiana 🌽🇺🇸" has reached roughly 2.7 million views, with a wonderfully compact question in the description: why no ketchup?
There were no new uploads this week. Instead, his existing travel collection added nearly five million views, with the Louisiana clip drawing more than three times the daily audience of either of the next two busiest videos. Those take him to a one-star Miami hotel, which he describes as not too bad, and a £13 sleeper train in Vietnam. Breakfast, a bed and a bargain: familiar Wilson territory, without needing another departure.
The channel gained subscribers over the week, although daily viewing is running below its usual level. Among nearby travel channels, Camper MidNight and Tyler Morgan - Japan Adventures had particularly large weekly audiences; Rick Steves' Europe and Jorden Tually had smaller view gains and unchanged subscriber totals.
Wilson's catalog also offers a pleasing contrast to that inexpensive Vietnam berth: luxury Arctic cruising and an exceptionally expensive first-class flight sit among his most-watched regular videos. For the moment, though, a Louisiana staple and a condiment question are doing more of the daily work.
