Frank Wright - The Last Living Original Marine Raider From WW2 | SRS #348
"Frank Wright - The Last Living Original Marine Raider From WW2 | SRS #348" is the episode the Shawn Ryan Show built its week toward. A preview went up first, then the full conversation, then a clip pulled from it, and by the end of the week the interview and that clip were the channel's two fastest-moving videos.
Wright's story starts early. He enlisted at 16 after Pearl Harbor and joined the 4th Marine Raider Battalion, one of the Marine Corps' first special operations units, where he trained under James Roosevelt, the president's son. The episode's chapters follow him through Guadalcanal and New Georgia to Guam, where the landing came under fire and, as the preview says, he survived a bayonet attack. On Iwo Jima he watched the flag raising and was then badly wounded. The clip now spreading fastest carries the headline version, two rounds through the chest, and a later chapter covers his fight to keep his arm. He went on to serve as a drill instructor, was promoted to sergeant in 2025, and put his memories in a book. The last chapter is simply his final message.
It is a fitting guest for a host who is himself a former Navy SEAL, and the long format leaves Wright room to talk about the men he lost as well as the battles.
The week's most watched new upload came from a different corner of the show. In a short clip on caller ID spoofing, a guest explains that scammers "can make it look like any number that they want to," even the FBI, and describes the "grandma scam", which he says was tried on his own grandmother. His advice: hang up and call the real person back. The comments filled up with readers' own versions, grandparents told a grandson was in a foreign jail, calls from their own number, and a few people pointing out that the clip never says exactly how the trick is done. Scams ran through several other clips too, one of them featuring Mark Rober.
Fifteen uploads in all, about 45 million views over the week and roughly 20,000 new subscribers. Among nearby podcast and interview channels with weekly figures, no one gained more views; First We Feast came closest, while Team Coco and the Jay Shetty Podcast also ran above their usual pace.
