Andra Berghoff wants your achievements left on your dating profile
Her response to advice about hiding career success has viewers making the case for filtering matches, not maximizing them.
Why this story? The video drew 984 comments in its first day, 6.8 times a normal first day on this channel (145).
I think this is actually the worst advice I’ve ever heard #single #advice #trending
The advice is to hide your accomplishments so more men will swipe. Andra Berghoff sees those very same photos as a useful filter.
In her commentary Short, she responds to a man she calls Craig, who tells women that pictures showing career success and ambition can intimidate men. His solution is to remove them rather than miss out on potential matches. Berghoff questions why managing that insecurity should be the woman's responsibility.
That distinction has given the comments something specific to chew over. Viewers argue that a profile discouraging an incompatible match is doing its job. One says the discussion is a reason to add a college graduation picture, not remove one.
The Short drew nearly 1,000 comments in its first day, almost seven times Berghoff's usual for the format. Its views were ordinary for her channel: the unusual part was how much conversation accompanied them.
Berghoff also makes a distinction between getting attention and finding someone compatible. Drawing on her UX/UI background, she says downplaying achievements can slightly increase male attention on apps, but rejects that as a reason to make yourself seem less accomplished.
Her closing instruction goes in precisely the opposite direction from Craig's: "Put them all on, ladies. Put every accomplishment you've ever had."
