Free Office alternatives join Matty McTech's website discoveries
Three new uploads range from open-source spreadsheets to drivable 3D locations and soundtracks for fantasy campaigns.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Alternative to Microsoft?
"Don't buy that, use this instead," Matty McTech says, before putting a free spreadsheet app through a small but practical test: opening an existing Excel file and typing into a cell.
That demonstration sits at the heart of "Alternative to Microsoft?", the week's most-watched new upload, with roughly 223,000 views. Matty introduces ArtCraft's DeckCraft, WordCraft and GridCraft, then visits GitHub to show their publicly accessible source code. It's a follow-up to his earlier discovery of alternatives to Adobe apps, this time aimed at familiar office tasks.
The comments make it a conversation about software choices rather than just a new discovery. Viewers bring up LibreOffice and OpenOffice, discuss their reluctance to pay ongoing subscriptions, and flag the new project's early development stage. One offers a detailed account of finding the related PDF editor too limited for larger edits.
Elsewhere, "This website is insane" introduces a tool for turning locations into exportable 3D models that you can also drive around in. The newest release, "A powerful website you should know", swaps office work for fantasy atmosphere, highlighting music and sound effects for D&D campaigns. It currently has the strongest daily viewing momentum on the channel; the older PDF-to-Excel import tip also remains active.
Matty added about 10,000 subscribers over the week, though daily views are currently well below his usual level. Nearby in tech, Paul's Hardware is having a busier-than-usual day, while Techmoan is quieter. For Matty, the freshest discovery takes the useful-website habit somewhere rather different: the game master's soundboard.

Libre Office has been around forever.
It's a free alternative.@austinmajeski9427See it on YouTubeI'll give it a try even if it's only beta for now. I just can't pay monthly for something i'll.never own
@hannibarcaSee it on YouTubeWorth noting that these apps are still in an early development stage, but it’s certainly a promising project.

Open Office is my preferred alternative
@elnulan1See it on YouTubeI tried PDFCraft based on your last video and it's kind of basic. I know it's still in beta and shows promise, but it's pretty limited now. When you click Edit PDF, every word is in a separate editing box, which makes it very difficult to edit unless it's just a few letters or something. Perhaps there are other free alternatives that might be better?
