Ren brings a guitar, not gratitude, to "The Music Business"
An affectionately billed teaser gives way to an acoustic critique of record executives, delivered from a battered couch in a graffiti-covered building.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 448,467 views a day, 7.4 times a normal first day on this channel (60,583).
Ren - The Music Business
The affection was a joke. Ren teased his new release as a little love song to the music industry, then delivered something considerably less tender: an acoustic rap about executives trying to reshape the artists whose work attracted them in the first place.
"Ren - The Music Business" reached roughly 275,000 views in ten hours, a much faster start than his usual uploads. But the performance itself keeps things stripped back. Wearing an orange beanie, Ren walks through a derelict, graffiti-covered building, finds a worn black couch and picks up an acoustic guitar.
There are vocal warm-ups before the argument begins. Rhythmic strumming carries a mixture of rap and spoken word aimed at the business's appetite for control, and the tension between making money from music and preserving its feeling. At the end of an intense verse, he laughs and asks, "Is that a bit much?" Then the guitar lands on the sofa, and he walks through the building singing unaccompanied.
The comments pick up on both halves of that performance. Some viewers jokingly ask him to make his supposedly ambiguous position clearer; others single out the familiar combination of guitar and lapel mic. One listener in their sixties describes anticipating his releases with teenage eagerness. Another finds a smaller mystery in the staging: how Ren keeps arriving somewhere that conveniently has a guitar waiting.

It's crazy how many random places you show up and a guitar just happens to be there waiting for you.

I think your opinion on the industry is somewhat ambiguous. One could almost glean some level of disapproval from this video. Would you be so kind as to provide some clarification of your position. 😂😂@thomassnell5119See it on YouTube

There's the old school Ren that I love so much. All the new stuff has been great, but I loved the stripped down stuff so much.
